[ARLT Summer School] Your Questions Answered

salve Reader!

We hope the exam season is going well and you are at last getting a bit more free time!

We have been very busy putting the finishing touches to our Summer School and answering some of your last-minute questions. If you have not booked it yet, the following FAQs might be the information you need:

  • Is this aimed only at teachers, or can GCSE and A-Level students also attend?

The Summer School is not aimed at secondary-aged students. We typically have a wide variety of attendees, from PGCE students to experienced retired teachers, but it is only for adults.

  • Can you attend only for some of the days?

Yes, you can choose to attend only on some of the days, and the price will be prorated.

  • Is the excursion included?

Yes, the excursion to Flag Fen Archaeological Park is included.

  • Are there bursaries available?

Yes, there are bursaries for newcomers, PGCSE students, and self-funding candidates. Please contact our treasurer, Jessica Dixon, to see if you qualify.

  • Is this only for private school teachers?

No. This is for teachers in any type of school, including those abroad, and you do not need a school or university affiliation to attend. If you are in a state school and your school cannot meet the CPD with its budget, please get in touch to enquire about a bursary.

  • Do I need to know Latin and Greek?

No, there are option groups for those who specialise in ancient History or Classical Civilisation, and also for those who are new to the languages and want to learn. The lectures are in English.

  • How much free time will there be?

The days are full of lectures and workshops, but there will be some time to rest. In the evenings, there are a variety of activities you can join, including a night quiz, a bar with a social area and even an opportunity to perform on stage! However, these are optional and you can choose how much time you take for yourself.

  • Will there be a bookshop?

This year we will have a book swap and sell area, so make sure to bring any books you do not want to keep as well as some space for the books you did not know you needed! If you are looking for something specific, you can get the conversation started in our Facebook group.

For any other questions, please take a look at our leaflet, reply to this email or contact our Summer School secretary, Alison Henshaw.

We are looking forward to seeing you this summer!
