ARLT Summer School FAQS

What and when is the Summer School?
It is a CPD and networking event for Classics teachers: existing, prospective and even retired! This year, it is held at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School from 28 July to 1 August 2025 in Monmouth, Wales, under the direction of Laura Beech. Monmouth is well connected by train and car.

What does the programme include?

  • Lectures
  • Practical option groups: language tuition, spoken Latin, set texts, Roman crafts, teaching and learning training, and more
  • A full-day excursion to local Roman sites.
  • Networking opportunities, including entertainment and an optional Latin-speaking table during meals.

Is it only for Latin, or is it suitable for those focusing on Classical Civilisation and Ancient History?

You do not need to know or be teaching Latin and Greek to get the most out of the summer school. There are plenty of option groups focused on Classical Civilisation and paedagogy. Here is a full list of the options: ARLT Summer School 2025 - Option Groups final version.pdf
