Dear Reader, Registration for Refresher Day is now open on the ARLT website. It will be a day full of learning and networking opportunities in the lovely city of Oxford, and we are all very much looking forward to meeting new teachers and catching up with old friends. But before I share the programme with you, I would like to draw your attention to a couple of other important pieces of information. First, please read the message below from Gráinne Cassidy: "Following the IB's decision to discontinue the Greek and Roman studies schools-based syllabus, Joe Herman at Dartford Grammar School and the CA have raised the suggestion of developing a non-linguistic course that could sit in Group 1, rather than Group 3, which might have more success in getting the numbers required. The IB are open to this idea, and would welcome seeing a proposal. They are bringing together a working party of those interested in sounding out ideas/developing a proposal, with the aim of meeting online at some point early in the new year. They are seeking the involvement of centres that currently offer IB Latin/Greek, as well as current/retired teachers who might have previous experience of working with the IB. Please contact Gráinne Cassidy (education@classicalassociation.org) by the end of January if you’d like to contribute to this." Also, I am very pleased to share with you the news of the publication of Classics in Action, by Arlene Holmes-Henderson and our very own Jessica Dixon, who is the ARLT treasurer. Jessica Dixon will be present on the day and you will be able to take a look at the book and chat with her. You can read more about this publication on our website. For those preparing to enter the Reading Competition, please remember that the deadline for entries is the 14th of March. You can find out more about the process on the competition's website. Finally, back to the Refresher Day. Here is a summary of what will be happening on the day: Programme9.40-10.00: Arrival with tea and coffee Hellenic Book Service 10.00-10:10: Welcome 'Teaching Classics Worldwide' Steven Hunt 1.20-2.10: Lecture and Workshop from Dr Melinda Letts, University of Oxford and Dragon School Governor 3.30-4.30: Committee meeting As always, our option groups will be delivered by experienced teachers and include a variety of options, from the role of AI and spoken Latin to set texts and pedagogy.
